It is a way of exaggerating, with dark humor, the idea of a leader who puts their own interest first without any scruples, even when it costs their allies dearly.
Where does the “I sacrifice them” meme come from?
This phrase draws on the kind of chilling line regularly delivered by shōnen manga and anime antagonists, who sacrifice their own troops or allies without hesitation the moment it serves their strategy. This trope is especially well known in Dragon Ball Z, where characters like Frieza do not hesitate to eliminate their own soldiers once they become useless or inconvenient. The phrase I sacrifice them echoes that detached, calculating tone, which has become a comedic shorthand for any ruthless decision, in fiction as much as in everyday life.
