What does the “bigim meme” meme mean?
The meme highlights the humor of absurdity and mocks those who seek meaning where none exists. It represents a collective joke aimed at tricking outsiders or moderators by passing off nonsense as genuine community jargon.
Where does the “bigim meme” meme come from?
The concept originated on September 25, 2012, on the /b/ (random) board of 4chan. An anonymous user proposed creating an arbitrary new word and spreading it across the web to persuade people of its real existence. The initial thread generated over 580 responses, including text and image macros. Participants then attempted to propagate the term on Reddit, Urban Dictionary, Omegle, FunnyJunk, Yahoo Answers, and Tumblr. These efforts often failed quickly because moderators on these platforms removed suspicious contributions within twenty-four hours. The experiment demonstrated the difficulty of deceiving moderated communities facing artificially constructed jargon.
