LA NOTICE - ALLER À LA CHICHA (Le Woop)In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Chicha goût chicha” is a common card of the Memes FR pack, number 5459 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3502 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Chicha goût chicha” meme mean?
The humor comes from treating “chicha” as the name of a specific flavor rather than the thing being ordered. When the server asks the customer to pick an aroma, he simply repeats “chicha,” then gets annoyed when the server suggests actual options. The couch comparison takes the confusion into even more surreal territory. The meme works for an answer that misses the point, a conversation spiraling over a basic misunderstanding, or an outsized reaction to a straightforward question.
Where does the “Chicha goût chicha” meme come from?
The meme comes from “LA NOTICE – ALLER À LA CHICHA,” a fictional comedy video by the French collective Le Woop, published on YouTube on November 27, 2015. In the scene, a customer is asked to choose a hookah flavor and replies “goût chicha” (“chicha flavor”). The server takes this as a request for a particular aroma and suggests options including apple and apricot. The customer then gets angry and compares the hookah to a couch that might have a pistachio flavor. The source credits the original idea to Yvick Letexier, the direction to Haroun Saifi, and the writing to Le Woop. It does not identify which member says the line or document when the clip later became a meme elsewhere.
