What does the “CHIEN PRANKEUR” meme mean?
The meme plays on the comic gap between an animal filmed normally and a dub that gives it sneaky, even mischievous intentions during completely ordinary moments. It is used to caption any situation where an animal, or a person, seems to have done something naughty while wearing an innocent face, in the same spirit as the redub videos that turn mundane footage into absurd gags.
Where does the “CHIEN PRANKEUR” meme come from?
The “bande rythmo” format works by redubbing an existing video with invented dialogue timed to match the filmed mouth movements, creating a comic effect through the mismatch. “Chien prankeur” refers to a dog featured in this kind of edit, portrayed as a prankster pulling off one trick after another, which inspired a song built around the character’s name and theme. The original video and its spin-offs circulated widely online, popularising the phrase as shorthand for a mischievous animal caught mid-prank, independently of the specific edit it first came from.
