What does the “Defi 1,5L de Ricard” meme mean?
The meme points at a well-known type of online video, the filmed drinking challenge staged like a sporting feat, with a named opponent to beat and a setup built to create suspense around a risky practice. People use it to mock this kind of content, its apparent seriousness, and the admiration it tries to generate, while implicitly underlining the health risk such a challenge represents.
Where does the “Defi 1,5L de Ricard” meme come from?
The “challenge” format filmed around a large amount of alcohol, here 1.5 litres of Ricard, reuses the codes of challenge videos common online: a staged setup with an announced stake, “who will manage to beat the boss”, and a tone that imitates a sporting competition to turn a risky act into a spectacle. This type of content belongs to a wider trend of extreme challenge videos, often criticised for the danger they represent, and the meme reuses that staging to highlight its absurdity and excess.
