What does the “Hey the moula!” meme mean?
This meme typically expresses surprise and admiration for a sporting feat, especially when a goal is scored in an extraordinary way. The repetition of « Hey the moula » acts as a rhythmic exclamation, amplifying the emotion of the moment. Although the connection to money is unclear, the common usage detours the expression to celebrate a victory or emphasize that an action finally paid off, despite initial doubts.
Where does the “Hey the moula!” meme come from?
The precise origin of this meme is difficult to establish with certainty. No verified source allows identifying the original video, TV show, or platform that gave birth to this textual association. A Téléfoot video published on December 5, 2020, features a goal scored directly from an engagement, titled « On the engagement, he scores an extraordinary goal », but no official link connects this extract to the meme. The word « moula », while known in slang to mean money and present in songs by MHD or Vegedream, has no clearly documented viral context here. Search results referring to these artists do not prove they are the origin of the extract. Thus, the true origin of the cry and its combination with the phrase about the goal remains unknown to consulted archives.
