What does the “Go Slimane!” meme mean?
The expression serves to push someone to act right away, often with an absurd or overly authoritative tone. It transfers the urgency of the cinematic scene into mundane daily situations. Users often employ it to gently mock procrastination or stimulate delayed action. The tone is deliberately dramatic and theatrical, highlighting the contrast between the importance assigned to the task and its sometimes trivial nature.
Where does the “Go Slimane!” meme come from?
The phrase originates from the French film OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies, directed by Michel Hazanavicius and released in France on April 19, 2006. In this sequence, the protagonist Hubert Bonisseur de La Bath, portrayed by Jean Dujardin, orders his accomplice Slimane, played by Abdallah Moundy, to speed off on a moped. The line is followed by a characteristic “Fooonce!!!”. Although the film is a satire of 1960s spy movies, this specific interaction captured public attention. Available sources indicate that the video circulates as a reusable audio citation, but it is difficult to trace precisely when it transformed into a viral meme or which platform sparked its popularity. It remains primarily associated with the absurd humor of contemporary French cinema.
