Where does the “Glazastik (Big-eyed guy)” meme come from?
The image comes from a press conference held in July 2007 during the G8 summit in Russia. During this event, Vladimir Putin was present when a young activist stood up to distribute leaflets in the hall. The television broadcast aired by the Russian channel TV Vesti captured the moment. Behind the main speaker, a spectator with very wide eyes appeared in the foreground. This fixed and disproportionate gaze immediately caught viewers' attention. The nickname 'Glazastik', literally meaning 'the little one with big eyes' in Russian, was attributed later. The character's popularity relies entirely on this facial expression rather than a specific quote. Although the source indicates a publication dated July 17, 2007, precise details of the exact incident date and the activist's name remain unknown. The initial platform for viral dissemination is also undocumented.
