The meme celebrates a YouTuber-style marriage proposal: a big emotional moment with a cheering crowd. People use it to congratulate friends who get engaged or married, to react to a couple announcement with deliberately loud enthusiasm, or to caption a joyful group moment. “Vives les mariés” is the party shout, and its slightly off agreement (French grammar would say “vivent”) adds a warm, funny touch.
Where does the “GMT demande en mariage” meme come from?
GameMixTreize, shortened to GMT, is a French-language YouTube channel. One of its videos is titled “Je demande Lia en mariage pour son anniversaire” (“I ask Lia to marry me for her birthday”).
