What does the “Green Man” meme mean?

Where does the “Green Man” meme come from?
The origin traces back to the American sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, created by Rob McElhenney and broadcast on FX. The Green Man character is Charlie Kelly, played by Charlie Day, who wears a full green lycra suit and dances in a chaotic manner. His first official appearance occurs in the episode “The Gang Gets Invincible,” season 3, episode 2, aired on September 13, 2007. According to reports, the idea came from a Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys game: in the parking lot of Lincoln Financial Field, a friend wore the green suit to provoke chants. The exact date of this incident is unknown, though it is placed around 2006. The term later referred to fans adopting this outfit at sporting events to attract attention and distract the opposing team. Its online spread is documented at least as early as November 1, 2008, when a YTMND user posted a page titled “Wild Card Bitches” featuring a GIF of the character.
