The phrase comes from LaSalle, a French gaming channel that devoted several videos to the jetpack in GTA 5 Online, under titles such as “Jet pack en ligne” and “Où est le jetpack”. One of them, published in 2014, is labelled by the channel as an April Fools’ joke meant to be taken with a grain of salt. The host uses his usual greeting, “Salut à tous, c’est LaSalle”, then announces his find with great excitement. Clipped out of context, the line spread as a sound and a screenshot until it became a stock reply among French-speaking gamers, who attach it to objects other than the jetpack.
