In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Couper en rondelle” is a rare card of the Memes FR pack, number 1669 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3499 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Couper en rondelle” meme mean?
The joke lies in the excess: a threat delivered in a grotesque, absurdly precise way. People use it to fake an explosive rage, to joke with friends or to get a laugh by exaggerating anger. It works like the great sketch lines passed around among family or colleagues: anyone who knows it smiles before the sentence ends. It belongs to the collective memory of French television, which Les Inconnus are part of. The tone is deliberately silly and never meant literally.
Where does the “Couper en rondelle” meme come from?
Les Inconnus are a French comedy trio made up of Didier Bourdon, Bernard Campan and Pascal Légitimus, formed in 1984 and best known for La Télé des Inconnus, broadcast on Antenne 2 between 1990 and 1993. Nulle part ailleurs was a live talk show on Canal+ that ran from 1987 to 2001, and the group appeared there with a segment that became iconic. The line quoted on the card comes from that television moment, which has stayed in viewers’ memories. Clips have circulated on YouTube and social media ever since, often as short edits, and the phrase gets reused by people who may never have seen the original broadcast, simply because its sheer absurdity is funny.
