What does the “Joël Legendre” meme mean?
The phrase relies on the classic trick of parodying a well-known song: a familiar line from traditional Québécois repertoire is picked up and extended with a comedic twist that completely changes the meaning of the original line. This kind of edit blends a recognizable cultural reference with a deliberately absurd or provocative touch of humor, which makes it easy to share. Joël Legendre's name is linked to this clip as a well-known figure to the Québécois public, without that implying any direct involvement of his in the edit.
Where does the “Joël Legendre” meme come from?
Joël Legendre is a Québécois TV and radio host born on 8 September 1966 in Sainte-Hélène-de-Bagot, known notably for dubbing actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Neil Patrick Harris in Québécois French. His visibility in Québec's media landscape made him an easily recognizable reference, which explains why his name gets attached to comedic content circulating online, including parodies of traditional songs popular in Québec's francophone culture. The clip linked to him reuses a well-known song line, twisted for an unexpected comedic effect, following a parody pattern common in humor shared online.
