What does the “Les Kassos” meme mean?
The meme recasts famous characters as ordinary people seeking help with everyday difficulties. Its humor comes from the contrast between their original fictional worlds and their mundane problems, told through ironic, cynical sketches. The French title is slang derived from “cas sociaux,” a pejorative label for people considered socially troubled. The name can refer to the series itself or, in casual speech, be used disparagingly about a person.
Where does the “Les Kassos” meme come from?
Les Kassos is a French animated web series created in part by illustrator and screenwriter Balak, alongside Alexis Beaumont and Rémi Godin. Bobby Prod produces it, with Canal+ as co-producer. The episodes take place in a social worker’s office, where parodies of characters from cartoons, films, manga, TV shows, and video games describe their everyday problems. The short sketches use an ironic, cynical tone. Voice performers include Jeanne Chartier, Medi Sadoun, and Guillaume Darnault. The supplied sources disagree about the series’ first YouTube upload: some give December 5, 2013, while another cites May 12, 2013. The exact date is therefore uncertain.
