What does the “Leur sentence est irrévocable.” meme mean?
The phrase marks a judgment with no appeal: a collective decision, made by several people together, against which nothing more can be done. The deliberately solemn, almost judicial register clashes with how mundane the real situation usually is (a game, a joke between friends, being left out), and that mismatch is exactly where the comic or dramatic effect comes from.
Where does the “Leur sentence est irrévocable.” meme come from?
The meme borrows the imagery of tribal survival games, where a council decides behind closed doors on a participant's fate. The line "their sentence is irrevocable" reuses courtroom vocabulary and applies it to a peer-to-peer elimination scene, creating a grandiose effect. It circulates as a ready-made reaction whenever a group announces, jokingly or not, that it has definitively settled someone's fate with no turning back.
