What does the “Malynx the lynx” meme mean?
The phrase suggests that someone thought quickly, chose wisely, or spotted a good deal. It can be a lighthearted compliment after a shrewd decision, or an ironic reaction when someone’s supposed cleverness seems less impressive. The joke comes from combining the French word “malin,” meaning clever, with “lynx,” the animal featured in the advertising phrase. The card calls it a “Mythical Mascot of the Greenlight,” but the connection behind that label is undocumented.
Where does the “Malynx the lynx” meme come from?
The pun is linked to a television advertisement for LeLynx.fr, an insurance comparison service. Its slogan paired “Malynx le lynx !” with a line presenting the service as quick and clear. The available information does not identify the ad’s first broadcast date, channel, programme, or original digital platform. It also does not name the character or voice in the initial spot. A later campaign, first broadcast on February 1, 2017, featured several users and a “tribu Malynx” (“Malynx tribe”). However, there is no evidence establishing that campaign as the source video for the meme. The card uses the label “Mythical Mascot of the Greenlight,” but where it came from and how it relates to the advertising phrase remain unknown.
- February 1, 2017A later LeLynx.fr campaign featuring several users and a “Malynx tribe” airs for the first time.
