What does the “Gewitter-Oma” meme mean?
People use "Gewitter-Oma" to describe someone reacting to an ordinary situation (here, a thunderstorm) with spectacular, almost over-the-top intensity, but in an endearing way. Dropping it in conversation means "she really went for it" or "he treated that like a major event", said with fondness and amusement rather than sharp mockery.
Where does the “Gewitter-Oma” meme come from?
The scene kept for this meme shows a grandmother reacting to a thunderstorm with a liveliness that clashes with the usual calm image people attach to grandmothers, with the nickname "Gewitter-Oma" matching that image directly. That contrast between the reassuring grandma figure and her almost electric reaction is what made the clip a recognizable meme, now reused for any over-the-top reaction to a minor weather event.
