What does the “Bachkippe” meme mean?

It gets used to comment on someone digging themselves into a shaky explanation, or to illustrate a TV moment where confusion becomes funny purely through a participant's stubbornness.
Where does the “Bachkippe” meme come from?
The scene comes from a live call on 9Live, a German television channel specialised in pay-per-call game shows, broadcast in the 2000s. A caller on the phone repeatedly offers the word "Bachkippe" as his answer, a term that does not exist in common usage and visibly confuses the host on the other end.
