In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Das legendäre 12:0” is a common card of the German Memes pack, number 208 of the collection, and the 150th best-known meme of its 300 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Das legendäre 12:0” meme mean?
“Das legendäre 12:0” plays on the gap between a grandiose word, “legendary”, and a plain match score usually reached in a low-stakes setting, a friendly game, a mini-game, an improvised tournament between streamers. The phrase mocks the habit of mythologising the smallest sporting or gaming feat: the bigger and more ridiculous the gap, twelve goals or points to zero, the more absurd the emphasis sounds. Viewers then bring the phrase back every time the same score, or an equally lopsided one, comes up again, turning it into an inside joke shared between a creator and their audience.
Where does the “Das legendäre 12:0” meme come from?
“Das legendäre 12:0” belongs to a family of memes born from the humour of German-language Let’s Plays and livestreams, where an ordinary moment, a score, a blunder, a line, gets replayed and over-commented until it becomes a recurring reference between a creator and their community. The trick is to tag that moment with a pompous label, “legendary”, “historic”, to sharpen the comic gap with how low the real stakes were. The 12:0 score works as a shorthand for any crushing domination in a game or sport played on camera: its use spread through viewers quoting and reacting to it, repeating the phrase whenever an equally extreme score shows up again.
