In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Toretto's cross meme” is a rare card of the Russian Memes pack, number 253 of the collection, and the 40th best-known meme of its 300 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Toretto's cross meme” meme mean?
The meme is used to roast ads from shady online shops that sell a cheap piece of jewelry as proof of strength or masculinity, just because a movie action hero wears it on screen. Dropping "Krest Toretto" into a conversation points out that kind of overblown sales pitch for an object with no real value, or teases a friend who takes a cheap accessory far too seriously. It is a sarcastic way of deflating a product's or a person's posturing.
Where does the “Toretto's cross meme” meme come from?
The meme started in 2019 on the Runet, around online ads selling a cross-shaped pendant copied from the one Dominic Toretto, the character played by Vin Diesel in the Fast and Furious franchise, wears on screen. Those shops marketed the trinket as a mark of manliness and inner strength, relying entirely on the character's image rather than on anything the object itself was worth. Internet users mocked that staging, reusing the phrase "Krest Toretto" for any cheap item sold with an equally exaggerated pitch. The matching card circulated as a rare pull, and some listings even advertised it as a free bonus to underline how absurd the original sales promise was.
