What does the “Met ta masque” meme mean?

The deliberately ungrammatical line (“met ta masque” instead of “mets ton masque”) sums up hidden-camera humor: a fantasy authority that punishes without warning. It points back to the era of mandatory masks and the absurdity of some everyday scenes. People use it to joke-scold a friend who forgot their mask, to imitate a fake guard’s tone, or to comment on a scene where the penalty comes out of nowhere. The meme carries a note of Covid-era nostalgia, delivered with self-mockery.

Where does the “Met ta masque” meme come from?

IbraTV is the stage name of Ibraguim Tsetchoev, a video maker born on 29 August 1992 in Grozny, who reached France in 2006 with his family. He has posted since 2012, first parkour, then hidden-camera pranks, and his channel hit one million subscribers in 2016. He also founded the YFC, a Youtube Fight Club of amateur MMA, and twice reached the Ninja Warrior final, in 2018 and 2019. The “Met ta masque” sequence belongs to his Covid-period pranks: dressed as a security guard, he scolds passers-by and pokes them with a telescopic arm while yelling the line. Lifted from the video, it circulates as a clip, an edit sound and a comic reply.
