In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “N'ayez pas peur” is a rare card of the Memes FR pack, number 903 of the collection, and the 441st best-known meme of its 869 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “N'ayez pas peur” meme mean?
The phrase is a promise that binds nobody. People write it before breaking bad news, before trying something whose outcome they have no idea about, or ahead of an obviously risky move. It works in reverse: the more reassurance on offer, the worse the situation really is, and that inversion is what turned it into a stock formula. Nobody reads it as comfort any more.
Where does the “N'ayez pas peur” meme come from?
The clip comes from Le Pire Stagiaire, the French hidden-camera series fronted by Greg Guillotin, in which he poses as an incompetent intern in front of professionals who are not in on it. In this sequence, wearing a white coat, he leans towards a patient and reassures him before acting. The engine of the series is the other person’s discomfort, and the line sums it up perfectly. Reposted as a short from 2020, it travels separately from the long video, used as an ironic warning by people who never saw the full episode. The short format helped a great deal: the line reads on its own, with no need to know who is being filmed or why.
