The dominant emotion is ridicule towards the artificiality of calculated interactions, contrasting human spontaneity with rigid forum protocols.
Where does the “Pickup Artist” meme come from?
The expression dates back to the 1960s with printed dating guides. Ross Jeffries popularized neuro-linguistic programming techniques in this context in the early 1990s. The community structured itself around the alt.seduction.fast discussion group created in 1994. Visibility grew thanks to Neil Strauss's book The Game and the MTV reality show The Pickup Artist aired in 2007.
