What does the “OK OSS 117” meme mean?
This expression is used to mock someone who takes themselves too seriously or adopts a supposedly superior stance. By comparing their opponent to the clumsy and arrogant spy agent from the films, it highlights a lack of credibility or excessive dramatization. It is a subtle way to push back against perceived infantilizing criticism using humor to neutralize initial aggression.
Where does the “OK OSS 117” meme come from?
The meme originates from the show "La Grande Confrontation", broadcast on LCI and TF1+ on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, starting at 8:30 PM. During the European election debate, Jordan Bardella (RN) criticized Léon Deffontaines (PCF) for identifying as a communist in 2024, telling him: "It would be good to grow up a bit!" This phrase echoed a line from the movie *OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies*, where the character played by Jean Dujardin used similar patronizing remarks. Léon Deffontaines immediately replied with "OK OSS 117", ironically equating Bardella with the cinematic character. This quick exchange spread rapidly on social media, becoming a symbol of contemporary political satire against personal attacks.
