In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Putain ça c’est un vrai couteau !” is a rare card of the Memes FR pack, number 4092 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3498 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Putain ça c’est un vrai couteau !” meme mean?
The phrase is used to emphasize, with over-the-top enthusiasm, that an object, a situation or a person is especially convincing or impressive, almost as if loudly certifying its authenticity. The deliberately theatrical tone, inherited from the musical phrasing it comes from, turns it into a comic comment rather than a serious remark. People bring it back out to react to a video, image or scene that jokingly deserves to be called a "real knife."
Where does the “Putain ça c’est un vrai couteau !” meme come from?
The phrase is tied to French rapper Ziak, whose track includes the line "c'est pas un vrai couteau" ("that's not a real knife"), which the audience picked up and flipped into an affirmative meme version: "putain ça c'est un vrai couteau!" Imitations and sound clips, including one from a content creator copying Ziak's voice and tone, helped the line circulate separately from the original track, notably as a reusable sound in video edits. The phrase thus left its musical context behind to become a sound-based reflex, used to react to any scene seen as impressive or spectacular.
