In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Sous Calibur 2” is an epic card of the Memes FR pack, number 2862 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3507 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Sous Calibur 2” meme mean?
The meme is about a simple pleasure: finding a great classic for next to nothing. The warped title plays on “sous”, the French word for pennies, and on paying with loose change. The card’s line, “one I’d paid €2 for, and another for €5”, recalls bargain-hunting through used game bins. People use it to evoke nostalgia for living-room fighting games, to brag about a good price, or to joke about the condition of a copy. A little collector’s pride runs through it.
Where does the “Sous Calibur 2” meme come from?
Soul Calibur II is a 3D fighting game published by Namco in 2003, whose soundtrack remains famous through tracks such as “Healing Winds” and “Maze of the Blade”. Videos still upload its music and fights two decades later. The French-speaking meme twists the title into “Sous Calibur 2”, a pun on the tiny price of a used copy, as the card’s two purchases at €2 and €5 show. It belongs to the humour tradition of gamers who hunt old games at second-hand shops. It spreads through screenshots, captions and messages among collector friends.
