The phrase captures immediate, grotesque terror. In the original scene, the character realizes he will be devoured after seeing others eaten. Online, it is used to react with exaggerated humor to chaotic, unexpected, or visually shocking situations. The comedic value lies in the contrast between the horror of the text and the terrible cinematic quality of the clip, turning fear into collective laughter.
Where does the “They're Eating Her!” meme come from?
The sole source is the cult low-budget horror film Troll 2, released in 1990. The scene features the character Arnold, played by Darren Ewing, screaming as creatures devour a woman. The earliest documented digital trace is a YTMND page titled "Oh My GAHHHHHHHHD!", published by user onemoresolo on February 28, 2006, which looped the audio clip. Shortly after, on September 8, 2006, a YouTube video uploaded by Veovisjohn widely disseminated the excerpt. No TV broadcast or earlier source is documented; popularity stems exclusively from online audio and video sharing.
