Where does the “5ever” meme come from?
The meme originates from a copypasta posted on Tumblr by user Deathray-Deathray on March 10, 2011. The story features a girl asking if her boyfriend will love her “forever.” He replies “No…” before she crosses the street and dies. Afterwards, he reveals he meant “five-ever,” meaning more than “4ever.” This narrative, intentionally misspelled and written in Comic Sans, mimics dramatic teenage posts. The text went viral on Blogspot, 4chan, Reddit, and YouTube in 2011, notably via a top YouTube comment on August 17, 2011. No TV show originated it; it stems purely from social web culture.
