Where does the “Beckos” meme come from?
Beckos was created by Japanese artist Picopico, based in Tokyo, between 2005 and 2007. The creature originated as a monster costume used for artistic performances and public exhibitions. Later, this design was adapted into collectible soft vinyl figures (sofubi). Sources indicate this is an original creation with no link to existing folklore or prior media.
