Where does the “BonziBuddy” meme come from?
Bonzi Software launched this desktop assistant in May 2000 via Bonzi.com. The software initially replaced Peedy, a Microsoft Agent parrot, with Bonzi, a talking purple gorilla. Critics blamed it for collecting personal information, forcing pop-up ads, and modifying browser homepages.
