What does the “C’est le Nord” meme mean?
The phrase is used to exaggerate, jokingly, the supposed harshness of a place or a situation. Delivered in a grave, almost haunted voice, it turns a region into a legendary nightmare, while the film shows the opposite. People use it to joke about cold, rain, a miserable commute or a dreaded move, and to mock the clichés that stick to regions. The wink lies in the gap between cliché and reality.
Where does the “C’est le Nord” meme come from?
Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis is a comedy by Dany Boon that opened in France on 27 February 2008, after a limited release in Nord-Pas-de-Calais on 20 February.
