The line comes from Les Visiteurs, a comedy released in France on 27 January 1993, directed by Jean-Marie Poiré and co-written with Christian Clavier. The film sends the knight Godefroy de Montmirail (Jean Reno) and his squire Jacquouille la Fripouille (Clavier) from the Middle Ages to the present day. In the story, Jacquart, Jacquouille’s descendant and also played by Clavier, says “c’est OK!” to calm a secretary who threatens a lawsuit after ashes damage her boss’s car. Jacquouille loves the phrase and adopts it. The film sold about 13.78 million tickets and topped the 1993 French box office; its soundtrack even includes a “single version” of “C’est Okay” by Éric Lévi. The scene has since lived on in clips and edits.
