In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Demonetised” is a common card of the Cancel & Dramas pack, number 55 of the collection, and the 69th best-known meme of its 117 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Demonetised” meme mean?
This meme expresses the shock and absurdity felt by a creator facing an algorithmic or moderator decision perceived as unjust or incomprehensible. It highlights the precariousness of online income and the frustration of being sanctioned without clear explanation. The dominant emotion is one of abrupt abandonment, turning a personal financial loss into a collective debate topic about censorship and tech giant transparency.
Where does the “Demonetised” meme come from?
The phenomenon stems from a post on X made on September 23, 2026, by Dalibor Stanisavljevic, known as Psyhodelik. He revealed that YouTube had removed his two channels from the Partner Program, citing reasons related to dangerous content or incitement to hatred. This notification arrived without specific details on the targeted videos, fueling his public perplexity. Shortly after noon, he launched a livestream titled "Psyho Live - Youtube demonetised my two channels. The end of Psyhodelik" to comment on the news. The explanatory video "YOUTUBE DEMONETISED MY TWO CHANNELS... AND NOW?" quickly became the focal point of the discussion. The meme was born from the juxtaposition between the severity of the sanction and the author's inability to grasp the exact reasons, crystallizing broader discontent with opaque monetization policies.
