What does the “C'est Notre-Dame et j'ai l'impression de crever” meme mean?
It fits any sorrow much larger than what caused it: a shop closing, an old stand torn down, a façade repainted. The tone cuts both ways — sincere for people who really mind what is disappearing, ironic for those quoting it at their own expense. What makes it quotable is the distance between a building and a verb that normally belongs to dying, not to architecture.
Where does the “C'est Notre-Dame et j'ai l'impression de crever” meme come from?
The card quotes a tweet from October 2019 that frames grief for Notre-Dame de Paris in deliberately excessive terms. It was written a few months after the fire of 15 April 2019, which destroyed the cathedral's spire and roof timbers and left an unusually wide shared emotion; reporting from the time collected accounts of shock at losing a monument people assumed was beyond harm. Available sources, however, cannot say whether the sentence began in a video, a broadcast or an earlier recording, nor who first spoke it: that origin stays unknown, and the card does not invent one for it.
