People quote it to describe a character’s honest love of food, or to joke about a habit they share themselves. Inside the game, the card points to the warm, good-natured tone of the saga, where a detail as modest as a plate of fries becomes a cult line quoted long after the film’s release.
Where does the “Des frites, Des frites” meme come from?
The “Les Tuche” saga, created by Olivier Baroux, follows a working-class family from northern France that suddenly becomes rich after winning the Euro Millions lottery, while keeping its habits and blunt way of speaking. The line “des frites, des frites” fits that family-friendly humour, built on short, repeated lines that turn into running gags across the films. The saga’s popular success, carried in particular by actor Jean-Paul Rouve as the family’s father, let many lines of this kind circulate well after their theatrical release, picked up online for their familiar tone and simplicity.
