What does the “Digidix” meme mean?
Saying “Digidix, légende online” conjures up a memory: a more homemade YouTube, where a funny dub or a musical parody could do the rounds of every schoolyard. The meme mixes admiration, nostalgia and a hint of self-mockery for those who grew up with these videos. People use it to salute a creator from a bygone era, to reveal their age among friends, or to start a debate about the YouTubers of old. It works best with people who lived through the period and still carry the lines in their heads.
Where does the “Digidix” meme come from?
DiGiDiX is a French-language YouTube channel that peaked in the early 2010s. Its creator made his name with remixed Battlefield game footage, with the voices and dialogue rewritten for laughs, and with parodies of songs by the rapper La Fouine. Other creators of the time appear alongside him, as in “L’Unité des Youtubers”, which features B20, La Fouine, Diablox9, MrLev12 and CodJordan23, among others. These formats, hugely popular back then, carried his name far beyond his own channel. Nostalgic videos asking what became of these YouTubers have since kept his reputation as an internet legend alive.
