Where does the “FantaSanremo / Sanremo” meme come from?
The phenomenon emerged in 2020 in Porto Sant’Elpidio, in the Marche region. A group of friends regularly gathered at Bar Corva da Papalina to watch the festival. They invented this system of fictional bets to enliven their collective viewing. The first edition featured forty-seven participants and used an internal currency called “baudi”. Each player selected five singers, including a captain, and accumulated points based on simple rules inspired by Fanta Game of Thrones. Scores were recorded manually on paper. The game then spread offline before gaining massive national audience through its media coverage by Rai Radio Due, although the exact date of this discovery remains uncertain.
