What does the “gp explorer” meme mean?
Bringing up the GP Explorer points at an event that became a fixture of French internet culture: people known for videos or music competing on an actual circuit, far from their usual territory. The phrase is used for a challenge mixing sport, spectacle and a massive online audience, or to gently tease a YouTuber who fancies himself a race driver. It also stands for any event that smashes concurrent-viewer records.
Where does the “gp explorer” meme come from?
The GP Explorer was created by French YouTuber Squeezie, who gathers content creators and rappers for a Formula 4 race on a real circuit, livestreamed on Twitch. Its first edition set a live-viewership record for French-language content, with over one million concurrent viewers, a number beaten a month later by the Eleven All Stars event. The second edition of the GP Explorer then reclaimed the record, passing 1,300,000 concurrent viewers. The event has since become an expected yearly fixture, where the race itself becomes a reason to gather an entire creator community around the same stream.
