Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Henry the major d'homme” meme mean?
The meme leans entirely on a mishearing: spoken fast, “major d’homme” and “majordome” sound nearly the same, turning a household servant’s title into a mock military rank. The humor comes from that gap between the expected word and the one it sounds like, a classic mishearing joke. Calling someone “Henry the major d’homme” gently mocks an overly formal, stiff, butler-like attitude in a situation that does not call for it.
Where does the “Henry the major d'homme” meme come from?
“Majordome” has long referred in French to the head servant of a large household, in charge of organizing staff and service. Said quickly, it blends with “major d’homme,” a phrase that does not actually exist but sounds like a military rank bolted onto a household job. This kind of sound confusion has long fed French wordplay and sketches, where an old or formal word turns absurd once misheard. The first name Henry, conventionally tied to stylish valet or butler roles in comedy, completes the imaginary character of a militarized butler, though no single show or sketch has been identified as the exact source.
