What does the “Je croise une femme qui va courir en forêt” meme mean?
The phrase plays on a well-worn horror-movie cliché: the opening scene where a lone person, often a woman out jogging, heads into an isolated forest right before something frightening happens. By reusing this image outside of any specific film, the line points out, with irony, how predictable, even comical, this narrative reflex has become through repetition. It is also used, lightly, to express exaggerated worry over an otherwise harmless everyday situation.
Where does the “Je croise une femme qui va courir en forêt” meme come from?
The phrase draws on a recurring horror-film device, where a lone figure jogging through an isolated forest acts as a visual cue for imminent danger, a device reused across many films in the genre over the decades. Online users repurposed this pattern by applying it to real or imagined situations, humorously highlighting the sense of dread this image now evokes even outside any film context. The line then spread as a caption for videos or photos conveying that same anxious, waiting feeling.
