In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Je l’ai peindu” is a common card of the Memes FR pack, number 2559 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3493 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Je l’ai peindu” meme mean?
The phrase is the candid admission of someone who damaged or transformed an object that was not theirs and sees no problem with it. The grammar slip, “peindu”, adds a childlike naivety that defuses anger. People use it to announce a regrettable initiative, an unrequested DIY job or a makeover imposed on someone else. It also works to tease a friend who touched your things, with the innocent tone of someone convinced they did well.
Where does the “Je l’ai peindu” meme come from?
GameMixTreize, or GMT, is a French entertainment YouTube channel whose videos regularly feature Momo, who is starting sixth grade in one of them. In a video titled “Momo peint ma PlayStation 4 Pro en rose” (Momo paints my PlayStation 4 Pro pink), Momo repaints GMT’s console. Other videos on the channel follow the quarrel around the PS4: GMT says he fried Momo’s console, and Momo then takes revenge by painting his PC. The line “Je l’ai peindu” comes from this setting, delivered with disarming ease. Cut out of the video, the phrase spread as a quote, an image caption and a reaction reply, even among people who do not know the channel.
