The commercial features comedian Gad Elmaleh for the bank HSBC, built on the slogan “Je rêve d’une banque”. Internet users later parodied it, making spoof edits of the spot. In February 2015, the SwissLeaks affair, revealed by Le Monde and several other outlets, put HSBC at the center of the news. According to the press, the comedian’s name was among those mentioned as having held a Swiss account in 2006 and 2007. Social media mocked the contrast between the slogan and the revelations, and videos twisting it into “Je rêve d’une banque… suisse” circulated. Gad Elmaleh spoke about it in May 2015 on the French talk show C à vous. The slogan has remained a source of jokes for French-speaking users since.
