The jingle says barely anything beyond its own name, repeated over a bouncy melody, which is exactly why it is irresistible. People sing it to welcome someone who knows the way, to tease a GPS stating the obvious, or to bring back a childhood cartoon memory. The feeling blends nostalgia and absurdity: a tune from a preschool show becomes a collective cry that adults repeat with a straight face and a smirk.
Where does the “La carte - Dora l'exploratrice” meme come from?
Dora the Explorer is an American children’s animated series created by Valerie Walsh, Eric Weiner and Chris Gifford, which aired on Nickelodeon from 14 August 2000. In France it ran on TiJi from 2002 and in the TFOU block on TF1 from 2003. In each episode the Map is an animated object that introduces the stages of the journey in song and helps Dora reach her friends. In the French dub, it is voiced by Bruno Magne.
