What does the “Le guide du zizi sexuel” meme mean?
Mentioning Le Guide du zizi sexuel evokes a shared memory: a book many young readers leafed through to understand what was not always explained elsewhere. The meme plays on complicity and a bit of embarrassment. The caption, “we all had to learn somewhere, right?”, sets the tone: generational humor that is kind and meant to take the drama out of the subject rather than to shock. It comes out when someone is surprised by a gap in knowledge or a teenage anecdote.
Where does the “Le guide du zizi sexuel” meme come from?
Le Guide du zizi sexuel is a spin-off comic of the Titeuf series. Hélène Bruller wrote it and Zep drew it. Glénat published it in 2001 in its Tchô! collection, and it addresses readers aged 9 to 13 on the subject of sexuality. A revised and expanded edition came out in 2020. An exhibition based on the book was shown at the Cité des sciences et de l’industrie in Paris in 2007 and again in 2014, and caused a controversy each time. On social media the title is reused as a humorous reference to that shared memory.
