What does the “Il a pas dit bonjour (Vald)” meme mean?
The line points at the classic breach of etiquette: showing up without saying hello. As a meme it dramatises that slip with a deadpan seriousness, as though it justified any reaction. People throw it out when someone walks in without a word, replies to a message with no greeting or barges into the middle of a chat. It also works as an in-joke between friends who know the song, and as a quick nod to Vald’s absurd, offbeat world. In a comment it simply says “you could at least have greeted us”.
Where does the “Il a pas dit bonjour (Vald)” meme come from?
The line comes from “Bonjour”, a track by Vald (Valentin Le Du), a rapper born in 1992 in Aulnay-sous-Bois. Its video, which blends humour and gravity with a sign-language performance and multilingual subtitles, went online on 3 June 2015. The song is the lead track of the EP NQNT 2, released on 25 September 2015, and it reached the top of the weekly French digital sales chart. That success turned its lyrics into a stock of quotations, this line among them, later reworked in videos, edits and captions to call out any lapse in politeness.
