What does the “Le mec en scooter dans le bus à Marseille” meme mean?
The phrase is used to point out an absurd situation, the kind of chaos typically pinned on Marseille, where even the most basic rules seem to stop existing. It's brought out in front of an unlikely scene, a wildly out-of-norm behavior, or a story that sounds too big to be true, tagging it "only in Marseille". It carries a mocking fondness rather than real contempt: an affectionate exaggeration of a city known for its relaxed vibe and wild stories.
Where does the “Le mec en scooter dans le bus à Marseille” meme come from?
The phrase comes from a video actually showing a scooter riding inside a bus in Marseille, filmed by a passenger surprised by the situation. The image, as simple as it is absurd, spread because it sums up in a few seconds a whole folklore around the city: the idea that in Marseille, anything can happen, even the unlikeliest thing. The clip was later reused as a comic reference to illustrate any situation that defies logic or the rules, well beyond public transport.
