“Le Woop” meme: meaning, origin and rare card

What does the “Le Woop” meme mean?

Mentioning Le Woop calls up a whole era of French-language YouTube comedy: short sketches, everyday characters and lines repeated in the schoolyard. The name works as a nostalgic marker among friends who grew up with those videos, or as shorthand for gang humour played by a group, made of ordinary situations pushed into absurdity. People bring it up when a moment feels like one of the collective’s sketches, or to recall the early days of performers who later became very well known.

Where does the “Le Woop” meme come from?

Le Woop was a collective of comedians who released their videos on YouTube in the 2010s. Its members included Mister V and Hugo Tout Seul, alongside Youssoupha Diaby, Mike Kenli, Jérémie Dethelot, Hakim Jemili and Malcolm ToTheWorld, according to the credits of its videos. It staged everyday situations in sketches and parodies: “La Notice” (at the gym, in police custody, reality TV), “En covoiturage” (carpooling) and “Le Noël du Woop”. Those videos, watched millions of times, introduced several performers to a wider audience and fed many clips and screenshots that are still shared today.

The reprint of the “Le Woop” card

The “Le Woop” card was reprinted as Epic (No. 3,338). A reprint is the same meme printed again, with a number of its own and a higher rarity than its first printing, which was rare. Its face reads “Reprinted card · Higher rarity”.

Every printing is dealt in the packs of the Memes FR pack, each at its own rarity: the higher it is, the rarer the card is to pull. Copies of the first printing already pulled stay as they are, and any printing counts toward completing a set.

MyMemeCards reprints a meme when it deserves more than the rarity of its first printing, such as a classic that became iconic after it came out: the reprint gives it a place among the most sought-after cards without taking anything from the players who already had it.
