“Luigi Clash Mario” meme: meaning, origin and rare card

What does the “Luigi Clash Mario” meme mean?

The phrase stands for the revenge of the sidekick. Luigi is the one living in a more famous brother’s shadow, and the clip turns that frustration into a comic showdown. People cite “Luigi Clash Mario” to talk about a parody rap battle, the grudge of the player-two kid, or nostalgia for the golden age of French YouTubers in the early 2010s. Lines from the lyrics get quoted in comments, edits and impressions, well beyond the original video game.

Where does the “Luigi Clash Mario” meme come from?

Norman, who started the channel “Norman fait des vidéos” in 2010, released the clip in 2014. He plays Luigi, who has had enough of always being player two and decides to face Mario in a rap clash. The video is listed among Norman’s music, alongside clips from other creators of the time such as Cyprien, Hugo Tout Seul, Jérôme Niel, Mister V and Nodey. It ranks among Norman’s most-watched videos and earned a nomination at the 2014 Web Comedy Awards in the “collective sketch” category. A bonus video also shows how it was made. The clip has stayed a classic that fans keep quoting and parodying.
