In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Mec des States” is an epic card of the Memes FR pack, number 2898 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3512 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Mec des States” meme mean?
The phrase gently mocks anyone who stages themselves as if they had just flown in from the United States: big car, roof down, maximum confidence, all in the streets of Paris. People use it to comment on a friend overdoing the style, a neighbour showing up in a flashy ride, or any attention-grabbing entrance. The gap between the American dream and a Parisian backdrop makes it perfect for captions and comments. It can also be said admiringly, in the sense of “he’s got style”.
Where does the “Mec des States” meme come from?
The meme leans on Laflèche92, presented as Niko Benef in the description of a podcast episode that hosted him, a colourful personality of the French-speaking web and rap scene who has appeared on several online shows and interviews. The card shows him in an American convertible in Paris, hence the nickname “mec des States”, a way of saying he acts like a resident of Los Angeles or Miami. The expression travels through clips, screenshots and comments with one constant idea: a Parisian setting, a car from across the Atlantic and unshakable self-assurance.
