Where does the “Der Gerät” meme come from?
The line comes from German telecom provider 1&1's ad campaign starring Marcell D'Avis as the "head of customer satisfaction". In these theatrical, exaggerated spots, a random device is simply referred to as "Der Gerät", with seriousness disproportionate to its actual importance in the scene. This line is part of a sequence of scenes from the same campaign, each separately reused as a meme by internet users for its deliberately grotesque tone.
